About the author

Dee was born in Rochester, New York. Currently she resides in the Chicago area in a small town called Channahon. One of her grandsons (Nik) lives with her.

Writing rebuttals to Phil Donahue was her training for the craft of writing. Writing fantasy has become her rebuttal of the current situation in the world. The reality of the world is harsh and each of us need to escape into a fantasy.

Excerpts from

The Fox and the Raven

Excerpt 1

I don’t know how much longer I can take this. This thing on my leg hurts like I have never been hurt before. Hanging in mid-air is not to my liking. I started to whimper, even though I was certain no one would hear me. Suddenly the sky above me cast a shadow that grew ever darker, an ominous portent to my current predicament.

It was a big black bird, very big and very black. I hid my face hoping it wouldn’t harm
me further. It landed right beside me.

“Well, little fellow, how did you get yourself into this fix?” Apparently it had no desire to devour me.

Excerpt 2

“Where is that damned bird? When I don't want her around, she’s under foot and I do, I can’t find her.

The thought no more than passed through my consciousness when I heard the flapping of her overly large wings. She was home. I prayed she found something that would lead us to finding the culprit responsible for Arthur’s illness. I knew it was no common malady.

In the past he’d gone from a strong vibrant regent, to the mere shell of a man.

She irked me to no end. In the heat of my anger, I opened my mouth to yell at her when I saw her standing in the stairwell with a tiny fox beside her.

Excerpt 3

Jumping from the bed on three legs, I began to explore the realm of the great wizard Merlin. His quarters were quite orderly, not what I expected from one dabble in sorcery. There are many more things in his dwelling that I could ever have imagined. This place is amazing, I’ve never seen anything like it. Shelves and shelves of books, far greater than the number I believed existed.

Then I caught the scent of a mouse. It was familiar, but different than my usual fare, I could hear him rummaging through a pile of parchment on the wizard’s desk. I jumped up onto the massive furniture sending a large book and many vials smashing to the floor with a resounding crash. The sound did not deter me, nor did the pain in my paw. I was after the mouse.
